Our Team
Dr. Laurel
Founder & Head Veterinarian
Laurel has been a small animal vet for over 10 years and is passionate about animal care. It wasn’t until her own dog became unwell that she recognised the true blessing of being a vet - being able to provide loving hospice and ultimately, let her sweet girl pass peacefully and painlessly out in the sunshine in the backyard, with family all around.
She started Hold My Paws out of a hope to give other pets the same gentle passing, and their human companions the same chance to say goodbye on their own terms, creating indelible memories of the final moments with their beloved furred family member.
She is also Low Stress Handling Certified and mother to 3 cheeky birds.
Lexie
Practice Manager
Meet Lexie, Our New Practice Manager! 🎉🐾
We’re over-the-moon excited to welcome the fabulous Lexie to the Hold My Paws family! She's not just a Vet Nurse Extraordinaire—she’s also stepping into the role of Practice Manager, and we couldn't be more thrilled to have her leading the charge.
With over six years of hands-on experience in the veterinary world—spanning everything from small animal nursing to coordinating foster and rescue programs—Lexie brings a powerhouse combo of knowledge, leadership, and compassion to our team. She's a fully qualified vet nurse with a Bachelor’s degree from La Trobe University, and her passions? Besides being slave to her full house of pets (she has birds, cats, dogs and a horse!), think exotic animals, animal behaviour, and exceptional client care. Basically, she’s our dream colleague.
But what truly sets Lexie apart is her deep, personal connection to the work we do. Her first experience with home euthanasia—when her own beloved family dog passed peacefully, surrounded by love—was a turning point. That calm, fear-free goodbye stayed with her. From that moment, she became a passionate advocate for gentle, in-home end-of-life care, helping pet parents navigate those incredibly tough times with grace and compassion.
Lexie’s love for palliative and geriatric care also comes from her journey with her own senior pup, who needed everything from pain relief injections to hydrotherapy and physio. She brought care home, turning his final months into something calm, connected, and full of love. 💛
At Hold My Paws, Lexie is already making magic happen. Not only does she keep our day-to-day operations running smoothly, she’s also our behind-the-scenes content and admin queen—creating useful resources for pet families and liasing with our referring vet clinics around Melbourne.
Her warmth, her professionalism, her incredible way with both people and pets—Lexie is already an irreplaceable part of the Hold My Paws team. We feel so lucky to have her, and we can't wait for you all to get to know her!
Please join us in giving her the warmest welcome. 🐶🐾💐
